Let's talk about トチノキTocinoki.


トチノキTocinoki（栃、橡、栃の木、学名：Aesculus turbinata）



日本では東日本を中心に分布、中でも東北地方に顕著に見られ、また中国地方にも分布するそうです。
It is seen in the Tohoku district and Chugoku district in JAPAN.
木はとても大きくなり高さ25m、太さも1mを越えるものが少なくなく、葉も非常に大きいです。
The tree grows big very much, and 25m in height, the thickness exceed 1m, too. The leaf is very big, too.
材面には絹のよううな光沢もあります。
Materials side has the silky luster.
色は全体に薄い紅黄白色から淡黄白色を呈します。
The color presents light yellow whitish from light rouge yellowish white in the whole inside of the wood.
板目面にさざ波模様（リップルマーク）が現れることもあるそです。
Ripples design (ripple mark) may appear in the cross grain side.

The avenue of the marronnier of Paris. This marronnier is brothers of theTochinoki. We can look as a roadside tree in Japan sometimes.

It is called horse chestnut,too.










そして実は飛騨の伝承のお菓子に｢トチの実せんべい｣があります｡
And, in fact, there is "cracker(tochinomi-senbei)" to the cake of the tradition of Hida.
縄文時代の昔からクリやクルミ､カシ､ナラ､シイの実 と共に主要食糧として活躍し､それ以来､山村の食生活にとち餅､とち団子という具合に利用されてきました｡
It was main food with a chestnut and a walnut, willow oak, a Japanese oak, a fruit of the chinquapin from old days of the Jomon-period.
Thereafter it has been used by the food (tochi) rice cake & dumplings in many villages.
しかしアクが強く、何度も清流などにさらして、アク抜きをしなければ食べられないそうです。
However, lye (very bitter) is strong. The people expose it to the clear streams many times and are not edible if they do not do lye omission.












木も実も昔から人間と深くかかわりのあるトチノキ。
As for the Aesculus turbinata , both the tree and the fruit have a relation with a human being deeply from old days.
