Kiri is light and stay dry.
That's why Kiri is used for Tansu, Kimono case.
桐は軽く、湿気を通さないので箪笥や着物入れに使われます。

And insects dont't like the smell of Kiri.
そして虫は桐の匂いを嫌うと言われております。

Fire is hardly spread on Kiri.
火は桐には燃え移りにくいそうです。

That's why Kiri is sometimes used as inside material for a safe.
なので金庫の内側の素材として使われることもあるそうです。
