Shoes box is one of the necessary items in a Japanese house since we have a custom to take shoes off in a house

It is usually situated in an entryway or porch of the house in Japan.

I think many people who live in Hawaii also take shoes off in a house...It would be good to have a Japanese shoes box in your house in Hawaii!!
