Do you know Fusuma doors?
襖をご存知でしょうか？

We are selling Fusuma doors in Honolulu, Hawaii!

Today, I'm going to talk about Fusuma doors.
本日は襖についてお話いたします。




Fusuma are a type of sliding door used as a separation between two rooms or as a closet door.
襖は２つの部屋を仕切る扉として、そして押入れのドアとして使われる引戸です。

They are opaque, usually covered with a decorative paper and very light weight.
障子と異なり光を通さず、デザインの施された紙が使われ、とても軽いです。

They are usually used as pairs, or pairs of pairs.
通常2枚一組か、4枚一組のように偶数で使われます。

If you want to add some art, Fusuma is the best way!
You can have doors and art together!
もしご自宅にアートを取り入れたいと思っているようでしたら、襖が一番です！
ドアとアートが同時に取り入れられますよ！

Today I would like to write the sequel of SHOJI DOORS...
本日は、引き続き 障子ドアについて書いていこうと思います。





SHOJI DOORS have some good points.

Tatami mats are a traditional type of Japanese flooring.
畳は日本の伝統的な床材です。（日本の方はご存知だと思いますが）

Tatami were only used as seating for the highest aristocrats.
畳はその昔、地位の高い貴族のみが使用を許されるものでした。

Tatami were gradually popularized and finally reached the homes of commoners toward the end of the 17th century.
そして17世紀末にかけて次第に庶民にも普及して行きました。

Tatami are also used when training Japanese martial arts, such as judo, for protective purposes.
畳はその他に、保護の目的で柔道などにも使用されます。

(We sell Judo Tatami too!)
（柔道畳も取り扱っております）



Tatami mats clean up air 24hours/7days!

We accept custom order.
So, you can change the size, trim even the color of tatami!

Today I would like to introduce a shoes box.

Shoes box is one of the necessary items in a Japanese house since we have a custom to take shoes off in a house.
靴を脱ぐ習慣がある日本では下駄箱は欠かせないアイテムの１つです。


It is usually situated in an entryway or porch of the house in Japan.
日本の家では、たいてい玄関や入り口付近に下駄箱が設置してあります。


I think many people who live in Hawaii also take shoes off in a house...It would be good to have a Japanese shoes box in your house in Hawaii!!
ハワイでも家の中では靴を脱がれる方が多いと思います。ハワイで日本の下駄箱を置かれるのも素敵ですよ!!

If you are going to ride TheBus tomorrow, please bring some canned-food with you!
もし明日バスに乗るようでしたら、缶詰を一緒に持っていってください！

Tomorrow, April 10th is "Stuff the bus day".
明日、４月１０日は"スタッフ ザ　バス"の日なのです。

All bus riders are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items when boarding the bus and place them in donation bags behind the driver’s seat.
乗客の人は、乗車時に腐らない食品(出来れば缶詰がいいそうですよ)を運転席の後にあるバッグにいれてください。

All food collected that day will help feed the hungry in Hawaii.
集められた食品はハワイの飢えを救う為に使われます。

Donors not riding TheBus may also drop off their non-perishable items on any City bus.
バスに乗らない方でも、食料を寄付することができます。



!!! It reminds me about canned-food in Japan!!
缶詰で思い出しました！

In Japan, there are so many unique canned-food.
日本には面白い缶詰がたくさんあるんですよ。

(Noodle is made by konjac/Devil's tongue/kon-nyaku)

Humidifier/加湿器

In our showroom, we have a small humidifier.
当店には小さな加湿器がございます。




Some of customer asked us "Why do you have a humidifier?"
何名かのお客様に、「なぜ加湿器があるのですか？」と聞かれたことがあります。

The reason why is to avoid desiccation crack of furnitures.
理由は、家具の乾燥亀裂を防ぐ為です。

Wood breathes too. So, it doesn't like to be dried.
木も呼吸をします。なので乾燥することを嫌うのです。

Please take good care of your furnitures!
家具をいたわってあげてくださいね！

Moonbow/月虹

Do you know "Moonbow"?
月虹（げっこう）をご存知でしょうか？

A moonbow (also known as a lunar rainbow, lunar bow or white rainbow) is a rainbow produced by light reflected off the surface of the moon rather than from direct sunlight.
月虹とは、夜間に月の光によって生じる虹のことです。


This picture was taken at Maui Island.
この写真はマウイ島で撮影されました。


It is difficult for the human eye to discern colors in a moonbow because the light is usually too faint to excite the cone color receptors in human eyes. As a result, they often appear to be white.
However, the colors in a moonbow do appear in long exposure photographs.

色が本当に薄いので人間の目には白にしか見えないそうです。
ですが、長時間露光をした写真には色がはっきりと写ります。

Few places in the world frequently feature this phenomenon.
Maui Island is one of them.
世界中のわずかな地域でよく月虹が観測されます。
ハワイのマウイ島もその一つです。


It is said that if you saw a moonbow, luck will visit you!
月虹を見ると幸せになれるそうですよ！

This is when the hanger is folded.
これが折りたたまれた時の状態です。




It becomes like this when you unfold it.
伸ばすとこんな風になります。



And you can make it longer!!
そして、さらに伸びます！！！





You can also use a kimono hanger to display an obi(a belt for kimono) instead of a kimono.
着物だけでなく、帯もこの様に飾ることも可能です。

Rainbow 虹

This morning was raining. It has been a little rainy recently.
今朝は雨でしたね。最近雨が多いような気がします。

A good thing in Hawaii is that it does not get as humid as Japan, even though it rains a lot. And I can see rainbows 3times a day or so!
ハワイの良いところは、いくら雨がたくさん降っても日本の様に湿気が出ないことですね。そして虹をたくさん見れます！1日3回くらい見ることも。





I wonder how many times I will see rainbows today.
今日は何回 虹を見れるでしょう..。

Happy Easter!!! ハッピーイースター！

Today is Easter. How is your Easter holidays?
今日はイースター(復活祭）ですね。イースター休暇はいかがお過しですか？


It is not really familiar event for me as Japanese...but I remember that I used to paint eggs when I was a child.
日本人の私にとって、あまり馴染みのある行事ではないのですが、小さい頃たまごの殻に絵を描いたのを覚えています。





Today I have found one Easter egg in our shop!!
今日 私たちのお店にもイースターエッグを発見しました!!



It looks like egg, doesn't it?!
なんだか卵のようではありませんか?!

It is actually a tiny container (2.5inch in diameter) for putting small items. But it reminded me Easter egg because of this cute shape and pattern.
実はこれは小さな小物入れです(直径５ｃｍ）。でもかわいい形とこの模様からイースターエッグを連想してしまいました。



Inside of this container is coated with gold.
容器の内側には金箔が貼られています。
