先月末に日本からコンテナが到着し、
サンナカウエストでは現在、新しい商品が展示されています。
今日はその新しく仲間入りした中の商品をご紹介しましょう。
Aloha everyone, thank you for visiting our blog.
We've had the new shipment from Japan at the end of last month,
and new items started to be displayed inside the store.
I will introduce one of those new items called
"Kamakura-bori(Engraving in Kamakura style)"
鎌倉彫とは日本有数の漆器工芸品の一つで
古くから愛されてきた伝統品です。
Kamakura-bori has been one of the traditional lacquer crafts in Japan.
簡単にその歴史と特徴、製造工程などをご説明します。
鎌倉彫の起源は古く、今から遡ることおよそ1000年前・・・
1192年に日本では新しい政府（幕府）が誕生しました。
Here is a short explanation of its history, feature and manfacturing process.
Almost one thousand years ago in Japan,
a new government (bakuhu) was established in 1192.
その新幕府が拠点としたのはそれまでの西の都から
遠く東の「鎌倉」と呼ばれる地方でした。
今でこそ鎌倉は古都として多くの人で賑わっていますが、
当時は漁村の人々が多く生活していた場所でもあり、
幕府樹立当初は政務を行う建物や武士たちの住居、商店街などの都市整備に繁忙を極めたそうです。
The administration moved from the west side of Japan where it used to be as a capital for long all the way to the east side of Japan called Kamakura.
At that time, Kamakura has been a fishing village area,
so it must have been very hard to change Kamakura to be a Japanese new capital.
They had to build gpvernment buildings, houses for soldiers, shopping district
and others.
さて、そんな新都市鎌倉で、都市整備の次に幕府が尽力したのが
禅宗の導入でした。
禅宗の書物や美術品を始めとした調度一式が中国から取寄せられました。
そして、日本の仏師の匠たちがその技術を独自の手法で発展させた漆芸品が鎌倉彫の所以です。
The next step which Kamakura government exerted is introducing Zen Buddhism
from China.
A tons of Zen books and artifacts were brought to Japan.
Then, Japanese sculptors of Buddhism started to develop new laquer crafts
with their outstanding skills and techniques.
That was the very beginning of Kamakura-bori.
様々なスタイルがありますが、サンナカウエストに展示されている製品は
全体を覆う浅彫りと中央に深く掘られた菖蒲などの草花の文様が特徴です。
彫り手による自由かつ力強いリズミカルな造形表現と漆の潤いある光沢と堅牢さを兼ねそろえています。
Actually, there are many varieties of Kanakura-bori,
but light carving which covers the whole and pattern of a flower carved in the center are the charcteristics of the products that we have in stock at this moment.
It is worth to see the powerful and rhythmic technique by craftsman and
see the beautifully shining lacquer.
漆を使った工芸品ということで職人がたくさんの愛情と手間をかけて製作しています。
十分な乾燥を経てから生地作りを行い、彫っていきます。
その後、彫刻を生かすため漆を浅く何度も重ねおよそ60回ほど繰り返します。
全て手作りで行われていきます。
It takes very long to produce Kamakura-bori.
We have to wait for the wood to be dried completely before engraving,
and lacquer is coated on it again and again. (appx.60 times)

実際に店内でご覧いただけますよ。
現在、鎌倉彫の鏡台、小物家具、箪笥をご用意しております。
今回新しく仲間入りした鎌倉彫は大きさもかわいらしい洋服箪笥です。

You can really feel the skillful Kamakura-bori items inside the store.
